Elizabeth Bishop is one of my favorite poets, and this complete poem book was enjoyable.
This is wonderful postmodern poetry. It shows how modern transited into the postmodern style. She was a well-awarded poet and short story writer and it shows. Her "Filling Station" is one of most well-known poems.
Good condition.
This book of free verse and prose poetry is intellectually passionate in its offerings of slices of life and symbolic imagination by Elizabeth Bishop, a true, 20th century master. I found my breath taken away quite often by the marvels of imagery unearthed inside her lines. This is poetry that is not rushed, patient enough to unveil its mysteries at a logical pace. It’s hard to refute the certitude of her visualizations. Instead, I just enjoy, bathe in the overflow of exact verbiage. Ultimately, I am always moved, because her own personal darkness is couched in the characters and situations she inhabits. Never boring, since Elizabeth’s gift was to know how to give us a fascinatingly otherworldly understanding of ourselves.
I love this poet and her ability to pull you into her poetry and writings. High recommend this book and poet
Bishop now buried in my City, and also raised maybe a mile from me, enjoyed her writing.
Home city also of Stanley Kunitz, Charles Olsen and Frank O'Hara.....what more could one want in excellent poets
and authors.
